The lymphocyte reference range will vary depending on the age, gender and pregnancy status of the patient, as well as the laboratory performing the test. In general, the lymphocyte count is considered low when it is < 1.0 x10⁹/L. Lymphopenia is a common finding and an isolated longstanding lymphopenia in adult patients, outside of intercurrent illness and without evidence of recent or active infection, is unlikely to be of clinical significance.
